Proficiency Exams

Through its Proficiency examination program, the University recognizes the importance of providing encouragement for academically talented students.

Steps for Taking a Proficiency Exam:

If you are on campus:

1. Contact the Office Manager, Jeaniffer Carman, jeaniffer.carman@siu.edu, Neckers 360, for a Proficiency Referral form.
2. Get the form signed by the Proficiency Coordinator, Dr. Dashun Xu, dashunxu@siu.edu.
3. Register for the class by going to the Registration Page and picking the test you would like to take.
4. Bring the Proficiency Referral Form with you when you take the test.

If you are off campus and would like your proficiency exam proctored, you must:

1. Contact the Office Manager, jeaniffer.carman@siu.edu, Neckers 360, for a Proficiency Referral form.
2. Gets the form signed by the Proficiency Coordinator, Dr. Dashun Xu, dashunxu@siu.edu.
3. Pay to take your exam by going to the Registration page and picking underneath Proficiency exam "Proficiency Exam-taken off Campus".
4. After you have paid for the exam, you must fill out a Proficiency Proctor form, to have your exam material sent to your Proctor.
5. Bring the Proficiency Referral Form with you when you take the test.

The student must register during the first week or through Wednesday of the second week for the regular semester course, to receive the credit for that particular semester.
